IL GUILLARE

A hidden hotel with a sense that everything may not be as it seems. Il Guillare is a secretive hotel in Venice, Italy with design largely rooted in the politics of renaissance-era Venice and the sense of mystery that hangs in the air of the famous nights of the Venetian carnival. 

Equipped with its own restaurant, Il Guillare is meant to be a high- quality, exclusive place where outsiders may not know exactly where or what it is. Visitors could expect to receive a plainly marked calling card with instructions to help them navigate the notoriously difficult floating city to the hotel.

A key design future is the dichotomy of what is seen on the outside by the passers-by versus what those in the know experience. This challenge was tackled through use of color, detail and symbolism in order to create a hotel where if you know, you truly know.
